How should I split my money across GICs?

A GIC ladder splits your money across GICs of different lengths, so some of it comes due every year while most of it earns longer-term rates. This one uses today's highest advertised rates. How ladders work.

An estimate only. Rates are the ones each lender advertises on its own website, and some special offers are for new deposits only. Confirm the rate, minimum deposit and terms with the lender before you invest. Deposit insurance (CDIC, or a provincial insurer for credit unions) has limits per institution, so large amounts may be better spread across more than one. See also today's GIC rates.
